Forget Bitcoin — Mobility is the New Currency of Fitness
Everyone wants to go harder. Lift more. Run faster. But here’s the truth: if you can’t move well, you can’t perform well.
Tom Merrick (@BodyWeightWarrior), mobility coach and movement specialist with over 1M YouTube subscribers, puts it bluntly: “Mobility gets mistaken for stretching — but it’s not about just touching your toes, it’s about reducing your body’s limitations. If you have restricted mobility, so are your options to move. We need to be able to squat down to the ground or reach our arms overhead; not just in training but also when traversing life outside of the gym.”
Mobility gives your strength meaning and your movement intention. It’s the difference between power and control.
John Lindsay (@TheMovementJourney) agrees. “Mobility isn’t optional — it’s your body’s language,” he says. “It’s how strength expresses itself with freedom, not tension. Mobility isn’t just flexibility — it’s flexibility plus strength. It’s what most people are actually searching for when they say they want to ‘move better.’”
At 23, John couldn’t touch his toes. Now, mobility is the backbone of how he trains. “And trust me — with consistency, your body can change.”
That shoulder pinch?
The stiff low back?
The hip that doesn’t quite open?
They’re not signs of weakness — they’re signs of opportunity.
Mobility Quick Tip: Try This Today
Start with one or two simple movements that deliver outsized impact:
- 90/90 Hip Stretch: Sit on the floor with one leg bent in front of you at a 90° angle and the other behind you at 90°. Lean forward gently. Great for hip mobility.
- Wall Shoulder Flexion: Stand with your back against a wall, arms straight overhead, thumbs to the wall. Slowly raise and lower — focusing on control and range.
Small steps, done consistently, create lasting change.
